Sorrenberg is very Bordeaux, very Paulliac, very bloody excellent. Signature aromatics, you just want to keep your nose in the glass. Cassis, dark cherry, pencil shavings, plum, bay leaf, woodsmoke and sweet earth. Generous, full flavoured and detailed. Plush and incisive, with terrific energy and flow, the tannins grainy, a piqued acidity. Effortless power, it’s so richly flavoured, yet drinks so cooly, a study of composure and refinement. Balanced, nothing at all out of place and the finish long and mineral. Alongside Wantirna, Australia’s finest Bordeaux style red.
The warm conditions of the 2024 growing season allowed our Bordeaux varieties to achieve excellent ripeness while retaining balance and elegance. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc & 20% Merlot, with the balance comprising Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. Low crop levels and natural fermentation on skins for four weeks, followed by 24 months’ maturation in French oak before bottling without fining or filtration. Blackcurrant and blackberry are complemented by subtle notes of white pepper and spice. The palate is generous and beautifully balanced, with a rich mouthfeel and fine, silky tannins. There aren’t too many truly distinctive Australian wines made from classical varieties, but Josh Cooper’s Cabernet-based wines from Victoria taste like no others. Super-complex aromatics of cassis, blackberry, mulberry, tobacco, soy, lavender and hints of red fruit. Pure, translucent and mineral. Medium-bodied, with notes of cola, black olive, gooseberry and a compote of crushed black […]

“The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon springs from a most glorious season in Western Australia (WA), and in particular, Margaret River. I judged at eight wine shows last season, six of which had classes of wines from Western Australia in 2023. It is my estimation that 2023 was a vintage that extracted the very best from every […]

One of Australia’s forgotten wines, Barossa Valley Cabernet is distinctive for its middle palate richness and sweetness of tannin. Classic Cabernet, with black fruits, blueberry, cigar box, milk chocolate and violets. Rich, medium to full bodied with lathered on fruit and lathered on tannins. There is an effortless poise and freshness to the character and […]

There isn’t a lot of Cabernet grown in Tasmania, but after tasting the range at Domaine A and Bubb + Pooley I would hope other growers take notice and start planting. 2022 is the inaugural release of Cabernet Sauvignon off the White Kangaroo Road (WKR) vineyard, the home of Bubb and Pooley. Expressive aromas of […]
