Sorrenberg is very Bordeaux, very Paulliac, very bloody excellent. Signature aromatics, you just want to keep your nose in the glass. Cassis, dark cherry, pencil shavings, plum, bay leaf, woodsmoke and sweet earth. Generous, full flavoured and detailed. Plush and incisive, with terrific energy and flow, the tannins grainy, a piqued acidity. Effortless power, it’s so richly flavoured, yet drinks so cooly, a study of composure and refinement. Balanced, nothing at all out of place and the finish long and mineral. Alongside Wantirna, Australia’s finest Bordeaux style red.
The warm conditions of the 2024 growing season allowed our Bordeaux varieties to achieve excellent ripeness while retaining balance and elegance. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc & 20% Merlot, with the balance comprising Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. Low crop levels and natural fermentation on skins for four weeks, followed by 24 months’ maturation in French oak before bottling without fining or filtration. Blackcurrant and blackberry are complemented by subtle notes of white pepper and spice. The palate is generous and beautifully balanced, with a rich mouthfeel and fine, silky tannins. Cabernet from a north-facing slope on Hans and Anna Orth’s vineyard in Coldstream. 100% whole bunches, matured in hogsheads (20% new). A medium, bright crimson. Ultra cool fruited and fragrant. Aromas of just-picked cherries and blackcurrant leaf together with a hint of cedar lead onto the medium-bodied, approachable, generous and quite delicious palate. Like pretty […]

A blend of 55/43/2% cabernet sauvignon/merlot/malbec. 16–20 days on skins and matured in seasoned hogsheads. A bright, medium crimson red. Another very well-made, ridiculously priced cabernet blend from Rob Hall. Aromas of cassis, cedar and a touch of violets lead onto the medium-bodied, well-balanced and already delicious palate. Drink by 2031. 95 Points – Philip […]

Released in top vintages, which, for winemaker Duncan Kennedy, are generally the cooler ones, with this registering at 13% alcohol. Ageing was in French hogsheads. A cooler year, yes, and modest abv, but this has neatly poised ripeness, capturing mulberry, forest berries, blue and black, while also feeding in some blackcurrant leaf, hedgerow and violet. […]

Barossa Valley Cabernet is one of our great underrated wine styles. Curator’s effort is very cabernet and, as it should be, very Barossa. Deep and vibrant colour, with soaring, glorious aromatics of black fruits, lavender and wood spice. Full bodied, full of vigour and strength, with savoury herbs, liquorice, campfire, crème de cassis, dark cherry, […]
