Sorrenberg is very Bordeaux, very Paulliac, very bloody excellent. Signature aromatics, you just want to keep your nose in the glass. Cassis, dark cherry, pencil shavings, plum, bay leaf, woodsmoke and sweet earth. Generous, full flavoured and detailed. Plush and incisive, with terrific energy and flow, the tannins grainy, a piqued acidity. Effortless power, it’s so richly flavoured, yet drinks so cooly, a study of composure and refinement. Balanced, nothing at all out of place and the finish long and mineral. Alongside Wantirna, Australia’s finest Bordeaux style red.
The warm conditions of the 2024 growing season allowed our Bordeaux varieties to achieve excellent ripeness while retaining balance and elegance. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc & 20% Merlot, with the balance comprising Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. Low crop levels and natural fermentation on skins for four weeks, followed by 24 months’ maturation in French oak before bottling without fining or filtration. Blackcurrant and blackberry are complemented by subtle notes of white pepper and spice. The palate is generous and beautifully balanced, with a rich mouthfeel and fine, silky tannins. This may seem like an outlier in the range, but it isn’t. Cabernet Sauvignon is indeed a classic varietal of McLaren Vale and the passion project of Charlie Seppelt. A love of Claret doesn’t mean an aping or copying of Bordeaux and Paralian’s example is simply the best out of the region and of a […]

The lightest iteration of Joshua Cooper’s sturdier varietals, but it’s by no means light. Super complex aromatics of lavender, violets, iodine, blueberry, blackberry, blackcurrant, charcoal/coal dust. Tight, coiled lacy and chalky, the skins are tasted and felt. Tannins are firm, receding to chalk and they are ever present, shaping and defining the wine. Interwoven acidity […]

A deep ruby red, this carefully handcrafted and perfumed wine has aromas of blackcurrant, dark plums and crushed violets together with hints of coriander seeds and incense. Medium bodied, elegant and gently fleshy with silky, persistent tannins to match. 95 Points – Halliday Wine Companion Complex cedar, spice and briar notes dominate the nose, […]

A blend of 55/43/2% cabernet sauvignon/merlot/malbec. 16–20 days on skins and matured in seasoned hogsheads. A bright, medium crimson red. Another very well-made, ridiculously priced cabernet blend from Rob Hall. Aromas of cassis, cedar and a touch of violets lead onto the medium-bodied, well-balanced and already delicious palate. Drink by 2031. 95 Points – Philip […]
