One of Australia’s great cabernets. This from a cooler season highlights and accentuates the typical bright red fruits and blue fruit mix, especially on the nose. It’s aromatic and perfumed with an African violet scent. The palate as always is so exquisitely balanced and refined. Since 1989 the cabernet has been augmented with the floral bright fruit of cabernet franc and the darker robust black fruits of petit verdot. The palate delivers with a gentle restraint yet there is power deep within. The chalky tannins define a long and focused finish. A deceptive medium bodied wine that will cellar for many years. 98 points, Ray Jordon.
There’s as much a Moss Wood DNA thumbprint as a regional one here. This shows off violets, cedary/toasty oak (thankfully not too much), chocolate and a slight ironstone character. Fuller bodied yet the palate is smooth and contained with fine-grained, almost silky tannins, plus dabs of sweet mulberries and blackberries with refreshing acidity tying everything together. Rather lovely now but will garner more complexity in time. 96 points, Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion

Bright ruby. Opens with a core of pure blackcurrant cabernet fruit together with scents of cedar, violets and a very gentle leafiness. The palate is youthful, refined and persistent and the tannins are silky yet long chained. It all adds up to a wine that, while good now, will age effortlessly over the next eight […]

“The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon springs from a most glorious season in Western Australia (WA), and in particular, Margaret River. I judged at eight wine shows last season, six of which had classes of wines from Western Australia in 2023. It is my estimation that 2023 was a vintage that extracted the very best from every […]

There aren’t too many truly distinctive Australian wines made from classical varieties, but Josh Cooper’s Cabernet-based wines from Victoria taste like no others. Super-complex aromatics of cassis, blackberry, mulberry, tobacco, soy, lavender and hints of red fruit. Pure, translucent and mineral. Medium-bodied, with notes of cola, black olive, gooseberry and a compote of crushed black […]

Impenetrable yet vivid colour. Gorgeous nose of blackcurrant, kirsch, lavender and a touch of tobacco. Full bodied, with glossy blue and black fruits, cigar box, coal dust, chocolate and cherries. It’s certainly within the Wild Duck mould, but like all their releases since 2020, a new level of vigour and intensity has entered the wines. […]
