Quinta Do Noval 10 Year Old Tawny Port

$115.00

Angular in shape, quite different from the two Colheitas. Super vibrant and intense, the youth shining through! Sweet red fruits, baking spices and orange zest. Long and harmonious, the spirit in the background, but becoming more apparent along the palate. I love the powdery tannins that squeeze through on the finish. Texturally complex, but also enabling a great range of dessert options. Waters Wine Co
A fresh, vibrant style, showing cherry and redcurrant pâte de fruit notes, with blood orange and rooibos tea flavors. Light cinnamon and mineral nuances add to the streamlined finish.” 92 Points – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator

“Very similar fox-red tawny to the Graham’s 10 year old tawny though perhaps slightly more concentrated colour. Grapes were apparently foot-trodden in the traditional way. More fiery than the super-smooth Graham’s with lots of pungency, some fine tannin and a treacly note. This wine will probably last longer in an opened bottle than the Graham’s and it’s slightly less sweet. This would be great with cheese and with Christmas pudding. Still quite chewy actually.” Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com

This is the youngest of the Noval Tawnies with an age indication. It’s made from 50% estate fruit with the balance from A-grade producers in the heart of the Douro Valley. Alongside Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa and Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional and Sousão now enter the story. The grapes are foot-trodden and fermented in the traditional lagares of the Quinta. After fortification, the wine is moved to old oak barrels of 640 litres for aging.
