The 2015 Les Jardins de Babylone is simply outstanding; layered and pulpy with ripe stone fruit shot through with crystalline grapefruit and orange rind freshness. Deep and yet somehow delicate and fresh, it is both a wine that will live for decades but a wonderful drink now! A release that easily justifies the claim, often made, that this is one of the world’s great sweet wines.
Made in tiny quantities from ridiculously low yields of 100% Petit Manseng, this offers all the purity and precision of Dagueneau’s greatest wines. The pricing reflects the costs of making the wine (via a berry-by-berry selection despite the fact that no botrytis is involved here). To arrive there, Didier previously claimed he simply totalled up the cost of the project each year and divided it by the number of bottles made. Sounds logical enough! The low yields and the warmth of the site means Les Jardins de Babylone can be picked as early as late October; a full month before the grapes for conventional Jurançon moelleux are picked. Even so, the wine usually ends up with approximately 125g/L residual sugar, perfectly balanced by mouth-watering, tangy acidity, rendering a wine with fabulous verve and drive.

Phoenix is crafted entirely from Petit Manseng. The drying southerly Foehn wind allows for the late harvests and passerillé necessary to produce Jurançon’s moelleux wines. The 2020 Phoenix was picked in November, then naturally fermented and aged for eight months in used barrels. With moderate residual sugar (of around 60 g/L), the racy Salharang style displays a terrific […]
Add to cart Producer: Clos LarrouyatI tasted the 2002 Don PX, which has 17% alcohol and 399 grams of sugar and seems dense and more concentrated than the 1999 I tasted next to it. They are all different degrees or declinations of similar aromas and flavors, such as dates, raisins, coffee and espresso coffee. This comes through as balanced and […]
Add to cart Producer: Toro AlbalaA tiny 0.41 ha strip of vines located at the bottom of Grand Cru Les Clos. More apparent wood is present on the otherwise similar nose. There is however more richness and volume to the slightly bigger-bodied and more concentrated flavors that also brim with sappy dry extract while exhibiting outstanding length on the powerful […]
Add to cart Producer: Christian MoreauGros Manseng made in the traditional style of the Jurançon, of south-west France. Harvested late in April this complex wine has unique aromas of mango, lychee and pineapple; while on the palate, richness is softened by the varieties citrus-like acidity, giving a fresh finish to the wine. 90g/L RS. The wine’s sweetness appears as a […]
