This inaugural release is made from a blend of several east-facing clay loam blocks on the Mangerton vineyard, planted in the 1970s. Shy on opening, it blooms beautifully with time in the glass, revealing detailed lemony scents. The palate is pure, lively and intense, reflecting the strength of the site. Drink now to capture its youthful beauty. Excellent value. 95 points, Halliday Wine Companion
Semillon, the traditional white grape of the Hunter Valley, was first planted at Mangerton Vineyard by Alfred Wilkinson and his eldest son, Charles, in 1866. Max Drayton replanted in 1978 using cuttings from the 1899 Semillon vines on Oakey Creek Road. This Semillon is made from several east facing blocks on the Mangerton Vineyard. Full bodied in style and ready to drink now. Tropical fruit and perfect acidity. Producer’s Notes
