When most of us think of the Mornington Peninsula, we think of pinot noir and chardonnay. Pinot Gris/grigio should be added to the list, the best in Australia comes from here. Think Quealy, think Polperro. I wouldn’t normally “love” a pinot gris from anywhere, but this is stunning. Pear, smoke, mushroom, kiwi fruit, white peach, apricot and nectarine. Terrific volume. Luscious and chiselled, the palate being flecked by honeysuckle, hazelnut, melon and spice. Slightly textured, a little oily and loaded with acidity. Australia’s best? Waters Wine Co
