A wine of phenomenal detail, complexity and layered richness. Juicy, succulent, rich and luscious with butter, honey, mandarin, fig, grapefruit, pawpaw, citrus blossom, star jasmine, crushed pineapple and macadamia. Textured with savoury oak, dry extract, and fleshy fruit stuffing. Thoroughly irresistible and the acid line taut, tensioned and driving. Like an Italian interior; sumptuous yet with a delectable lightness of touch. Purring, effortless grace and power, the flavours drive and hold the line for many long tantalising minutes. One of the great chardonnays of the New World, pushing the boundaries of grandeur. Norris at Waters Wine
The Ridge Chardonnay is a vibrant, high-energy wine bursting with immediate notes of white flowers, green apples and poached pears. There is a light, subtle smokiness in the background but this is all about the fruit at this early stage. The palate is driven and very fine, with layers of green, yellow and orange fruit all on show. A tensile wine that effortlessly gives a sense of place, this is full of youthful verve and will likely be even better with another 6 months in bottle. 450 cases produced. 93+ points, Thomas Parker MW
The 2023 Chardonnay Ridge was hand-picked and vinified with 20% whole bunch. It went through 100% malo and matured for 11 months in French oak, including 8% in clay amphora. This has a bright and lively bouquet with lemon balm, linden and light crushed stone aromas. The palate is well balanced with a smooth texture, presenting touches of tangerine and citrus peel. There is a subtle candied element on the finish that I like. Very appealing. Drink 2024-2032. 91 points, Neil Martin – Vinous

Intense and full of character with notes of white flowers, stone fruits, citrus, spice, cherry and blackcurrant. Intense and full of presence, but with a lightness of touch. The spice is more elevated on the palate (clove) and although off-dry, feels drier for all that. Scintillating and mineral as you so often find with Falkenstein, […]

Still very reductive […]

Le Fief du Breil comes from a single, six-hectare biodynamically farmed vineyard, situated on a south-facing slope above the Sèvre river in La Haye-Fouassière. Fief is a term from the Middle Ages which means a piece of land once associated with (and probably owned by) the local Abbey or Duke. This in turn infers quality, as the local […]

A remarkably complex and immensely satisfying wine at this price, a testament to the versatility of Chenin Blanc. Aromatics of lavender honey, quince, apricot, nectarine and jasmine. Intense and bright, with zingy citrus, tangy apple and a lovely mineral finish. There’s structure, quite tight in fact, complementing […]
