4 x bottles Alheit Cartology 2021

It unfurls gradually on the nose with honeysuckle and light yellow plum and mirabelle scents, a mineral undertow that stealthily gains prominence. The palate is very well balanced with just a killer line of acidity; Nashi pear and yellow plum commingle towards a resinous finish. After 10 minutes, it really beginning to fire on all cylinders – another magnificent Cartology. Superb.”
95/100 – Neal Martin, Vinous

“Is it only just over a decade since the first vintage of this trend-setting wine in 2011? Cartology seems to have been with us for longer than that. The 2021 release marries Chenin with 10% Semillon, this is a seamless Western Cape blend, showing flavours of saffron, beeswax, pear, fresh herbs and lemon juice and engaging purity and focus. 2023-30”
95/100 – Tim Atkin MW

1  x bottle Alheit Hemelrand Vine Garden 2021

The 2021 Hemelrand Vine Garden is one of Chris Alheit’s biggest successes and encapsulates everything great about his wine. Initially quite neutral, it reveals wondrous sea spray, honeysuckle, Provençal herbs and hints of powdered chalk on the nose. The palate has exquisite balance, very cohesive and intense, yet the acidity keeps this so fresh with hints of yellow plum, frangipane and quince towards the extended finish. You just want to go back for another sip (and I bet you will). 96/100 – Neal Martin, Vinous

3 x bottles Hereafter Here Chenin Blanc 2021

First produced in 2020, this Chenin Blanc hails from dry farmed, bush vine vineyards that are less than 20 years’ old, blending components from Stellenbosch and the Swartland. Savoury and refreshing, with mouth-watering acidity, rock salt and lemongrass flavours and the zip that’s typical of the 2021 whites. 94/100 – TIm Atkin MW

1 x bottle Monument Semillon 2021

Chris Alheit normally uses grapes from two parts of the legendary, south-facing La Colline vineyard for Monument, but in 2021 they all came from the top of the slope. Showing the balance of its old-vine source (planted in 1936 or possibly earlier), this combines leesy weight with notes of fynbos and green herbs, subtle skin tannins and an intense, stony core. 97/100 – TIm Atkin MW

2 x bottles Fire By Night Chenin Blanc 2021 (ex Broom Ridge)

Chris Alheit’s recently acquired Nuwedam farm on the Paardeberg is the source of this world-class Chenin Blanc, which shows his determination to “zero out the winemaking” and focus on site. White flower and roof thatch aromas segue into a taut, focused, stony, effortlessly concentrated palate with layers of fennel, oatmeal and green apple. 2023-31 98/100 – TIm Atkin MW

1 x bottle Nautical Dawn Chenin Blanc 2021

Called Nautical Dawn because of the Rustenhof farm’s proximity to the waves of False Bay, this subtle yet concentrated old-vine Chenin Blanc has some seashore aromas, flavours of beeswax and nectarine, understated oak, a volatile lift and the focus and precision that are the hallmarks of Chris Alheit’s winemaking style. 96/100 – TIm Atkin MW
