Michel Lafarge Beaune ‘Aigrots’ 1er Cru Blanc 2021

$255.00

A tiny 0.23Ha plot. First slope of Beaune, next to Clos des Mouches. Top of the slope planted with Chardonnay. Vines aged 37 years. Vertical press so pressing is very slow. Aged on only fine lees. 10% new oak.

There is one barrel of the 2021 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru Blanc this year whereas usually there are five. It has an attractive, well-defined bouquet with dried honey, grilled walnut and light fumé scents. The palate is well balanced with fine depth and more complexity than Lafarge’s Meursault with a judicious touch of spice on the finish. Worth seeking out. Drink 2023-2038. Tasted Jan 2023 (89-91) points, Neal Martin, Vinous

‘Notes of pear, peach, white flowers and buttery pastry introduce the 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Aigrots Blanc, a medium-bodied, taut and racy wine, of which only one barrel was produced.’ 90-91 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate Feb 2023

One barrel only. Ripe fruit, a touch of bacon fat, then white stone fruit across the palate. Surprising depth behind with excellent acidity. Not quite a classical balance but there is a lot of wine here. Promising. Drink from 2025-2029. Tasted: October 2022.. 89-91 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
