Henri Germain Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 2021

Without a doubt, this is one of the great examples from this vineyard. Germain’s youngest vines here are 35 years old, and he has six parcels across the lower and upper (dessous and dessus) parts. Having said that, most of Germain’s vines are at the top of the climat, abutting the Puligny Premier Crus. This may be why certain experienced tasters claim that Germain’s Charmes is often his most ‘Puligny-like’ wine. It may be sacrilege to say so, but this is a Meursault Charmes that can be as great as many a Perrières. Hard to pick as being from a late year, this has outstanding depth and layers, as the notes below make clear. Benchmark Meursault.

“The 2021 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes is lovely, unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, green apple, freshly baked bread and subtle hints of nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, ample and racy, its textural attack segues into a layered, concentrated mid-palate, concluding with a saline finish.
