Without a doubt, this is one of the great examples from this vineyard. Germain’s youngest vines here are 35 years old, and he has six parcels across the lower and upper (dessous and dessus) parts. Having said that, most of Germain’s vines are at the top of the climat, abutting the Puligny Premier Crus. This may be why certain experienced tasters claim that Germain’s Charmes is often his most ‘Puligny-like’ wine. It may be sacrilege to say so, but this is a Meursault Charmes that can be as great as many a Perrières. Hard to pick as being from a late year, this has outstanding depth and layers, as the notes below make clear. Benchmark Meursault.
“Colour and nose suggest could use a little dusting of sulphur to freshen up. Plenty of volume here and the Charmes style comes out wonderfully well. Softer texture here but still enough acidity. This will make a lovely Charmes.” 92-94 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“The 2021 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes is lovely, unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, green apple, freshly baked bread and subtle hints of nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, ample and racy, its textural attack segues into a layered, concentrated mid-palate, concluding with a saline finish. The inherent plenitude of the site supplies any wont of mid-palate volume that the vintage might exhibit.” 92-94 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

A great introduction to the estate, very much of their style and what one tends to expect from these parts. Lovely lift, with lemon, lime preserve, savoury spice, white flowers and yellow fruits. Pulpy and juicy, thoroughly abundant, with cream, spice some citrus zest, mandarin and white peach. Good energy to balance the satiny richness. […]

Beyond the tension, detail and sensual complexity, is a texturally beautiful, intricate and woven wine, all the threads coming together yet somehow separate. The 2022 Tarrington Vineyards Chardonnay is perfection and I defy anyone who says they don’t like Chardonnay not […]
