Without a doubt, this is one of the great examples from this vineyard. Germain’s youngest vines here are 35 years old, and he has six parcels across the lower and upper (dessous and dessus) parts. Having said that, most of Germain’s vines are at the top of the climat, abutting the Puligny Premier Crus. This may be why certain experienced tasters claim that Germain’s Charmes is often his most ‘Puligny-like’ wine. It may be sacrilege to say so, but this is a Meursault Charmes that can be as great as many a Perrières. Hard to pick as being from a late year, this has outstanding depth and layers, as the notes below make clear. Benchmark Meursault.
“Colour and nose suggest could use a little dusting of sulphur to freshen up. Plenty of volume here and the Charmes style comes out wonderfully well. Softer texture here but still enough acidity. This will make a lovely Charmes.” 92-94 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“The 2021 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes is lovely, unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, green apple, freshly baked bread and subtle hints of nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied, ample and racy, its textural attack segues into a layered, concentrated mid-palate, concluding with a saline finish. The inherent plenitude of the site supplies any wont of mid-palate volume that the vintage might exhibit.” 92-94 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

A delight to just smell, let alone drink, the stony Denton soils shine through scents of ripe citrus fruits and white flowers. Texturally too, it is simply gorgeous, with compact, chalky weight aligned to lithe acidity, a whisper of grip and pent-up energy. Poised, driven and sustained, it’s Yarra Valley Chardonnay at the peak of […]
Add to cart Producer: Lambert WinesThe coolest and highest site, providing the most angular and obviously structured of the chardonnays. Reductive notes of struck match, green apple, white peach , grapefruit, sweetened condensed milk, citrus blossom and white flowers. Cool tasting, spicy and long. A wine of linear shape and great drive. Some chalky minerality on the close adding textural, […]
