Fighting Gully Road Rose 2024

Mark Walpole has an international reputation as one of Australia’s great viticulturists, particularly with Italian varieties, but the quality of Fighting Gully Road is as much a testament to his winemaking as his vineyards.
The 2024 Rosé shouldn’t be this exciting, but it is. Serious, textured and utterly delicious, with creamy red fruits, apricot, savoury spice and rose petals. The palate grips with fine tannins and a wave of sweet, tangy red fruits, salt and oyster shell. Delicious now, yet with the structure to reward time in the cellar. Wonderful stuff.
What a trio – Beechworth sangiovese and cabernet and Alpine Valleys aglianico – and the meeting is a seductive, wild red fruit fest for the senses. Dusty, earthy, morello cherries, cracked pepper and almond fragrance. Savoury, floral redcurrant, cherry and almond meal notes guide the palate, showing plenty of crunch and energy along the way.
