2017 is the first ever release of the Mother’s Shiraz. It has an intense aromatic profile that is very true to the Tyrrell’s style with an abundance of summer fruits. The palate is fresh and juicy with only the subtle influence of oak.
Mother’s vineyard is situated adjacent to Chris and Tegan Tyrrell’s house and has always been known as Mother’s after Murray Tyrrell’s mother who lived there. This block was replanted in 2010 with cuttings from 4 Acres, Johnno’s and Old Patch ensuring that Tyrrell’s best Shiraz vineyard clones are preserved.
The 2017 growing season was one of the best in recent memory and has produced wines of the highest quality. Solid rains in winter and spring meant the vines had constant access to water and the warmer weather in the new year meant all of the fruit was in near perfect condition and ripeness when harvested. The Mother’s was the last Shiraz of the vintage to be harvested. Handpicked and made in the same fashion as Tyrrell’s other top Shiraz wines. Matured in a single three-year-old French oak cask (2700L) for 15 months.

Frankland River had a great vintage in 2019 and Swinny has cashed in big time, 2019 their best release to date. Expressive, complex and sensual with ferrous notes, geranium, smoked meats, black fruits and cumin. Tight, tense and spicy, with a fascinating structure. Round and voulumious, but focused by muscled tannins and abundant acidity. Black […]
Add to cartThe 2017 was the first Hochkirch Syrah we tasted. Revelatory; unique and detailed, we simply could not believe this was an Australian wine. The 2021 is a little deeper, with slightly darker blackberry fruit, structure, fine detail, gamey notes, freshness and a compelling herbal and spicy lift. Very fine, moreish and refreshing. Waters Wine Co […]

There is a ‘brilliance’ to the colour of this wine, really purple with a red hue. Taken from four sites, 60% of the blend comes from the south of Heathcote and the remainder from the northern sites. Combination of American and French oak, 45% being new. Intense aromas of bright red fruits, chocolate and strawberry […]

Enveloping with red fruits, the most in this lineup, blackberry, mulberry, chocolate, vanilla, fennel and wood char. Round in shape, fleshy and driven with lively acidity and lacey, chalky tannins. For all its size, this is remarkably […]
