The 2022 The Relic Shiraz-Viognier contains 2% Viognier skins, and this addition presents in this vintage as a core of raspberry and pomegranate. It is pure fruited and powerfully aromatic, as this cuvee always is. Interestingly, I am tasting this wine from two different glasses: one opened two days ago, one opened this morning. They are quite different, telling us once again that oxygen really is a friend to this producer, especially if choosing to drink these wines young. While the bottle opened two days ago is complete, balanced and utterly refined, it speaks more of its florals and fruit than it does its savory register of spice and complexity. However, the wine opened today has nuances of bacon fat and exotic spice. It is tightly coiled and springy and nowhere near as giving as the former. So, choose your own path. This vintage is a prettier, finer but no less long or coiled version of itself, and it will prove to be one of the greats in the cellar. The tannins certainly are a highlight for me. Built for age but also, in the framework of this beautiful season, absolutely available to you right now. An effortless beauty, here. 14.9% alcohol, sealed under natural cork. 98+ Points – Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate

Are blends better than single varietals? This Cabernet Syrah would certainly stoke the fires of debate, and I would have loved the opportunity to taste the unblended varietals. Very refined, in the claret vein, balanced poised, powerful and graceful. Stunning flavours of violets, plum, blackcurrant, raspberry, tobacco and cream. Terrific shape, across an even plane, […]
Add to cart Producer: SwinneyThere is a ‘brilliance’ to the colour of this wine, really purple with a red hue. Taken from four sites, 60% of the blend comes from the south of Heathcote and the remainder from the northern sites. Combination of American and French oak, 45% being new. Intense aromas of bright red fruits, chocolate and strawberry […]
Add to cart Producer: Wild Duck CreekSouth Africa has an uncanny knack of producing Syrah’s at a price and quality, that should embarrass just about the rest of the world. Serve this in a pinot noir glass. Intense bouquet of black, red and hedge fruits, with lavender, Asian spices and cumquat. Vivid, supple and expansive palate, so soft in the mouth, […]
Add to cart Producer: MullineuxSuperficially an outsider in the range, coming from classic Heathcote Cambrian soil, known for producing wines of incredible richness and power. But it’s not an outsider, the power harnessed and controlled by the best in the business. Certainly the Heart of Darkness of the range; the richest, most dangerous, darkest and deepest wine. Masses of […]
