The Savage Red 2020 is a pure Syrah sourced exclusively from prime organically grown Stellenbosch vineyards planted on decomposed granite soils. The grapes were spontaneously fermented from wild yeasts using 50% whole clusters spending 3 to 4 weeks on skins. The wine spends 12 months in 500 litre barrels followed by a further 10 months in foudre.
Despite all the dark youthful broody density, the wine displays a gloriously perfumed aromatic profile that rises out the glass effortlessly to reveal expressive notes of lavender, sweet lilies, ripe red plum, stewed mulberries and strawberry compote before singed sandalwood, dried rosemary and thyme herbal nuances.
The palate is broad and elegantly textured with plenty of sweet, sumptuous upfront red and black berry fruits, a savoury steak tartar meaty complexity, black peppercorns and a granitic infused mineral finish. Wonderfully polished sweet plush tannins make this a seriously generous wine that will offer rewarding drinking on release, but that will undoubtedly be cellar worthy for another 10 to 12+ years of development. – 95 Points, Greg Sherwood MW

As always, Bondar’s Violet Hour Shiraz is handpicked from the Rayner vineyard. A blend of block vines, both young and old (some up to 70 years old). Wild fermented naturally with a high portion of whole-bunches and matured in older French oak (no new barrels were used this year). The wine spent six months resting […]
Add to cart Producer: BondarAre blends better than single varietals? This Cabernet Syrah would certainly stoke the fires of debate, and I would have loved the opportunity to taste the unblended varietals. Very refined, in the claret vein, balanced poised, powerful and graceful. Stunning flavours of violets, plum, blackcurrant, raspberry, tobacco and cream. Terrific shape, across an even plane, […]
Add to cart Producer: SwinneySourced from 22-year-old vines on the lower end of the east-north-east slope, the Crudo bottling channels all the vivid, savoury Rhône-like appeal Luke searches for while delivering plenty of delicious, drink-me-now appeal. This year, just 10% bunches were included in the ferment to avoid overcrowding the spicy blueberry flavours and fine, granite-derived tannins, and the […]
Add to cart Producer: Lambert WinesThere is a ‘brilliance’ to the colour of this wine, really purple with a red hue. Taken from four sites, 60% of the blend comes from the south of Heathcote and the remainder from the northern sites. Combination of American and French oak, 45% being new. Intense aromas of bright red fruits, chocolate and strawberry […]
