Curator Wine Co Barossa Valley Shiraz 2022

$30.00

Sourced from 5 plots from Curator’s own vineyards in Marananga. Unmistakably Barossa and it’s done so well. Rich, deep and full bodied, a compote of black, blue and red fruits, with well integrated oak spice. Glossy and silky, the tannins cascading and very fine. A wine to buy a dozen bottles of, as there is a good 15 years of cellaring.

A deeply fruited western Barossa shiraz, etched with graphite and dark spice and fruits that sit in the Doris plum, blackberry and blueberry spectrum. It’s generous, with a distinctly contemporary feel and a rich créme de cassis-like flow on the palate. Oak seemingly plays a minor role in favour of fruits, fine and powdery tannins and a delicious blueberry pie finish. 94 Points, Halliday Wine Companion

An inky dark maroon colour, the nose exhibits notes of mocha, cassis, chocolate, coffee grinds and tobacco leaves. The texture is seductive, even decadent, and there are abundant but fine and silky tannins. A long and lingering finish, over which the intensity is maintained, ties up an utterly gorgeous Barossa Shiraz. This really is seriously good value. Enjoy it any time over the next ten to twelve years. The score could have been higher, and I have no doubt it will deserve elevation with time. 94 Points, Wine Pilot

Producer Profile

Established in 2012 by Tom White, The Curator Wine Co is located on the western side of the Barossa Valley, within the sub-region of Marananga. The estate comprises eight distinct vineyard blocks, each defined by its own soil profile, contributing to the character and complexity of the fruit.

Tom’s focus is on curating individual wines from each block, exploring the nuances of soil, rootstock and vine age. His philosophy is simple: wines are made in the vineyard. From there, the approach in the winery is deliberately minimal, allowing site expression to take precedence.

Fruit is hand-harvested, wild fermented and basket pressed to French oak, with no fining or filtration. The result is a range of wines that are dark, flavoursome and generous, yet balanced by a natural sense of structure and flow. All wines are vegan-friendly.
