Not the darkest Syrah/Shiraz I’ve ever seen, perhaps more evidence of Tasmania’s ambition and difference with their mainland counterparts. Stunning aromatics of Hoisin, Chinese Five Spice, blackberry, cassis, rhubarb, sweet raspberry, lavender soap, fennel and camphor. Pure and translucent, sensual and slick. Concentrated, elegant and mineral. Snaking shape, threading flavour and texture together. Spice flecked the whole way through. The whole bunches are less showy on the palate, compared to the aromatics, enabling the fruit to really sing. Smooth flavours, so long and persistent. Very fine indeed. Waters Wine Co

An exciting twist on the Bubb & Pooley Syrah this year sees the inclusion of Viognier. A blend of Syrah from the Tamar Valley and Coal River Valley co-fermented with whole bunches of exotic viognier. Hand harvested, destemmed and open fermented with 6% Viognier inclusion has produced a wine of aromatic opulence and with layers of texture. Winemakers Notes

Producer Profile

Bubb + Pooley is a new wine venture created by the husband and wife winemaking team of Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley. Their first and subsequent releases were produced from purchased fruit sourced from carefully selected vineyards in the Coal River Valley and the East Coast of Tasmania.

Sustainability and minimal impact underpin the approach at Bubb + Pooley – the fruit is hand-picked and there is minimal added sulphur to facilitate wild-yeast ferments and natural malolactic conversions. The wines are fermented in hand-crafted concrete vessels specifically designed to enhance the varietal.

All wines are bottle unfined and so are vegan suitable.
