Savaterre Pinot Noir 2024

From one of Australia’s earliest close-planted vineyards, established on granite and clay soils, this is a Pinot Noir of remarkable presence and refinement. The aromatics are expansive and deeply expressive, revealing an intensely floral bouquet layered with English summer berries, blackberry, mulberry, tar, exotic Lebanese spices, a wisp of smoke and the first savoury hints of cured Serrano ham.

The palate is powerful yet exquisitely composed, with concentrated fruit delivered in finely etched detail. Every element is sculpted and focused, supported by beautifully integrated, velvety tannins and a vibrant line of acidity that carries the wine effortlessly across the palate. There is an unmistakable sense of scale and gravitas, yet the wine never loses its poise or energy. It combines power with elegance, richness with precision, creating a Pinot Noir of extraordinary tension, persistence and finesse. Medium ruby to garnet colour showing some development; the bouquet also showing some tertiary nuances buildng a smoked charcuterie and toasty oak mélange, uncannily burgundian and five-spicy, with intensity, persistence and great sweet fruit richness in its core. A little more open, a little more aromatic, a little more immediately inviting than the previous release, which is good news for those impatient wine drinkers among us. Lifted and beautifully perfumed in rose petal and violet aromas, red berries, raspberry, blood orange pith and aromatic dried herbs. Comes together in perfect sync, integrated in fine tannins, with small red berries, herbs and aromatics on show and a freshness of acidity that pulses and brightens the whole experience.
