Medium to deep cherry red colour. Dark cherry, blue gravel and crushed rose petal aromas lift out from the glass. Dark fruits on entry, and the palate builds weight and intensity as it rolls along. Dark minerality, anise spices and woody herbal notes all add layers of complexity and character. Tannins are prodigious as the variety demands, but stay within context of the other elements, driving and drying the finish well. Demands food and I wouldn’t argue: those tannins deserve a deep protein to make them work 06 FEB 2024’ 95 Points Stuart Knox The RealReview.com.au
‘Australia does a fine job with nebbiolo. Admittedly, across a limited number of hands. But each time I am in the Piedmont, there are plenty of Aussies being thrown up as worthy comparative cards. Here, one of them. A pallid mid-ruby. Lifted scents of briar, sandalwood, campfire, beef bouillon, pomelo and orange peel, with a sluice of the sourest cherry, all fiery pucker and brim. Undoubtedly, among the finest nebbiolo outside of the Langhe, although there is something here more akin to Gattinara, so etched are the tannins and perky the freshness. A standout. Scored in a regional context. Drink or hold. Screw cap.’ 94 Points Ned Goodwin MW James Suckling.com.au

To make recent comparisons, 2019 is dense of extract with a bulwark of firm, marked tannins. It is frequently compared to 2013, by others to 2016. […]

There is a ‘brilliance’ to the colour of this wine, really purple with a red hue. Taken from four sites, 60% of the blend comes from the south of Heathcote and the remainder from the northern sites. Combination of American and French oak, 45% being new. Intense aromas of bright red fruits, chocolate and strawberry […]
