Frederick Stevenson Montepulciano 2024

$35.00

Utterly captivating, with all the heightened sensuality of Montepulciano. Layers of blackberry, plum, blackcurrant and mulberry unfold into notes of licorice, dried herbs and mint. Curved and supple, with fine, bow-like tannins giving shape and line. Plush yet controlled, the focused acidity drives the wine long through the finish. Abundant, succulent, and seriously compelling.

Bright magenta-splashed crimson with fruit tones of blueberry, boysenberry and black cherry fruits. Hints of crushed rock, exotic spice, amaro, dried citrus rind, wildflowers, cherry conserve and earth. Bright fruits blue and black in shade, with a chewy, chalky tannin grip, bright red apple-skin acidity and a lightly earthen, savoury arc to its travel. Drinkability writ large. 92+ points – Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion

Producer Profile

Winner of the 2020 Young Gun of Wine Winemaker’s Choice Award, Steve Crawford has built an impressive path working around the world before returning to South Australia to establish his own label, Frederick Stevenson.

His wines are refined, elegant, and tightly structured, sourced from two distinct sites: the biodynamic Vine Vale vineyard in the Barossa Valley and a rugged hilltop site north of Eden Valley.

The range balances a nod to traditional Australian winemaking with a curiosity for lesser-known varieties and styles. Small-batch, minimal intervention, and quietly expressive – these are wines that are only set to become more sought after.
