The 2015 Les Jardins de Babylone is simply outstanding; layered and pulpy with ripe stone fruit shot through with crystalline grapefruit and orange rind freshness. Deep and yet somehow delicate and fresh, it is both a wine that will live for decades but a wonderful drink now! A release that easily justifies the claim, often made, that this is one of the world’s great sweet wines.
Made in tiny quantities from ridiculously low yields of 100% Petit Manseng, this offers all the purity and precision of Dagueneau’s greatest wines. The pricing reflects the costs of making the wine (via a berry-by-berry selection despite the fact that no botrytis is involved here). To arrive there, Didier previously claimed he simply totalled up the cost of the project each year and divided it by the number of bottles made. Sounds logical enough! The low yields and the warmth of the site means Les Jardins de Babylone can be picked as early as late October; a full month before the grapes for conventional Jurançon moelleux are picked. Even so, the wine usually ends up with approximately 125g/L residual sugar, perfectly balanced by mouth-watering, tangy acidity, rendering a wine with fabulous verve and drive.

The Cavallotto 2018 Barolo Bricco Boschis (a certified organic wine) is a lovely expression with fruit from one of the most beautiful sites in Castiglione Falletto, measuring 7.3 hectares. The wine is streamlined and tight with forest berry, blackcurrant and spice. It is taut and silky, showing fruit that has been shaped by cool nights […]
Add to cart Producer: CavallottoGosh! this is a tough one to describe as we have not really tasted anything quite like this. Expressive bouquet of lime marmalade, lavender honey, apricot, yellow peach, fig and cherry. Luscious and intense with thrusting acidity and slightly textured. There is a reductive nutty element that balance’s the sweetness of the wine, but there’s […]
Add to cart Producer: Mullineux‘Cordon Cut’ refers to the unusual practice of cutting the canes allowing the grapes to ‘raisin’ naturally on the vine, concentrating flavour and sugar levels. 2020 is another outstanding vintage for Mount Horrocks. The wine is a bright, pale white gold colour with concentrated lemon-lime and vanilla spice. The juicy fruit washes over a vibrant […]
Add to cart Producer: Mount HorrocksThe 2016 is equally stunning but far more youthful and therefore, more delicate and discrete than the 2015. It’s a vibrantly racy wine with mixed citrus and fresh-cut apple notes and a juicy, vibrant close. Both vintages are Germanic in style, less so dessert wines but more for drinking throughout the meal (the way you […]
