Two of our favourite white Burgundy producers are Goisot and Guffens-Heynen. Ironically they are of opposing styles and one is from the northern reaches of Burgundy – Goisot, while Guffens-Heyen the south in the Maconnais. Goisot’s wines are sleek, chiselled and mineral, whilst Guffens’ are opulent, hedonistic and textured. Many wine lovers will express a preference for one style of wine or another, but if there were two producers who would challenge your assumptions, these will almost certainly do it.

I wish we could say that we’ve tasted, or better still drunk, every single release of Guffens-Heynen. What we can say is that the 2020’s are the best release that we have seen and if we didn’t have to make a living, would have purchased every single bottle for ourselves! The 2019’s were remarkable, and if you thought the wines of this great estate couldn’t possibly get better, then the 2020’s may just prove you wrong.

Broad-shouldered, they carry the sun with them on high octane intensity and chiselled frames. Very high natural acidities, the highest ever for many vineyards, low pHs, creamy and luscious palates. Complete wines in every sense of the word, for drinking immediately and decades hence.
