Chris Alheit’s recently acquired Nuwedam farm on the Paardeberg is the source of this world-class Chenin Blanc, which shows his determination to “zero out the winemaking” and focus on site. White flower and roof thatch aromas segue into a taut, focused, stony, effortlessly concentrated palate with layers of fennel, oatmeal and green apple. 2023-31. 98 points – TIm Atkin MW
A single vineyard wine from grapes planted in 1978, in the Helderberg overlooking False Bay. Bright and fragrant aromas of lemongrass, candlewax, green melon, subtle passionfruit tingle and nectarine. Deep and concentrated with Alheit’s signature purity, even-flow and salty minerality. Very complex, every sip revealing something new. Oyster shell, blood plum, sunflowers, curry leaf, grapefruit and apricot. The silken texture evolves into a texture of the finest fur, with a marked squeeze of salty minerality. An absolutely breathtaking wine to be consumed with pure and unadulterated foods. Sydney Rock Oysters, perhaps. Waters Wine Co
Fire by Night is a single origin Chenin Blanc wine grown on Alheit’s own Paardeberg property called Nuwedam. The Paardeberg holds a mythical place in our minds. It is both ground zero for the quality revolution that’s sweeping the Cape, and home base for some of our country’s wine heroes. Previously under-valued, the Paardeberg sports an embarrassment of riches: pure decomposed granite soil and an abundance of dry-farmed old bushvines.
Situated on a hight ridge (three hundred to three hundred and fifty meters above sea- level), in the heart of Paardeberg, Nuwedam is home to 20Ha of mature dry farmed bushvine Chenin Blanc. The soil is pure decomposed granite, yielding wines of clarity and focus. Our vineyards were planted between 1972 and 1985 on various slopes, some facing East, some West, some North. This gives us a palette of options to work with to make our best possible wine from the property each vintage. These vines are our pride and joy. Their roots go deep, grabbing life out of the granite, humming their secret tune, calling you near.

100% Fie Gris. A great vintage for Goisot, full of pristine ripe fruit and cut with tension. Ruby grapefruit, nectarine, fig, preserved lime and spice. Intense and full bodied, flecked with savoury spice, apple strudel and Victoria plum. Complex textural profile, supple and round, with an almost electric charge of chalk. Who said white Burgundy? […]

Some skin contact and ageing in old French barrels gives this fresh, aromatic variety texture and complexity. A cracking example of one of McLaren Vale’s rising star white varieties. Add to cartThe Anjou Blanc is from old densely planted vines, rooted in shallow sand and schist soils. Aged for up to 18 months in 500L and Stockinger “cigar” barrels, 30% of which are new. This is certainly the estates signature style, if more approachable, fuller and rounder than the more aristocratic Savennieres. Clear, tender, transparent and […]

Produced from vines aged between 35 and 40 years, this unique wine was vinified with only a short period on lees, as Jo Landron wanted to retain as much freshness and minerality […]
