Michel Lafarge Beaune ‘Aigrots’ Premier Cru Blanc 2020

First slope of Beaune, next to Clos des Mouches. Top of the slope planted with Chardonnay. Vines aged 37 years. Vertical press so pressing is very slow. Aged on only fine lees. 10% new oak.
‘The 2020 Beaune Clos des Aigrots 1er Cru Blanc, which has been pressed using a vertical pressoir since 2017, has a lively bouquet with citrus peel, dried honey and light spicy aromas. The palate is very taut on the entry, good extract here with yellow fruit, dessicated orange peel and a touch of salinity towards the finish. Modest length. Enjoy over the next 12-15 years. Drink 2022-2032’ (90-92) points, Neal Martin, Vinous Oct 2021
‘A strong effort from the hillside, the 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Aigrots Blanc evokes notions of citrus zest, crisp yellow orchard fruit, white flowers and toasted almonds. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, its generous mid-palate is girdled by bright acids and chalky structuring extract. It’s a benchmark for the appellation.’ 91-93 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate Jan 2022
‘Another pale colour but the bouquet is more striking, a range of fresh fruits, apple and fresh plums, more refined than either Meursault. By some way the pick of the whites here, as ever, with a lively mineral thread and some lime blossom to finish. Tasted: October 2021. 90-93 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
