Mac Forbes Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2022

Such an excellent value wine and classic Yarra Valley. Needed some time to open up, perhaps I tried it too cold? High tones all the way, with lime, lemon, pink grapefruit, gardenia and mandarin blossom. Mouthwatering and very tense, there’s a dimension of extract that tensions the bright acidity and tangy fruit. Very focused and linear, with good heft in the mid palate. Really something, and a cornerstone of the Mac Forbes style. Waters Wine Co

A few hours of skin contact before being fermented and matured in mainly seasoned barriques and left on gross lees until bottling. A bright green gold. White peach and orchard fruits are complemented by a little orange blossom and gently grilled nuts. And while this has the Mac Forbes DNA of being tightly wound with crunchy acidity, the palate is still gently textured, poised and balanced. 93 Points, Halliday Wine Companion.

The Yarra Valley label is the entry into our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. ‘Yarra Valley’ is a blend of declassified barrels from our grower vineyards and the Mac Forbes single vineyard sites. They represent a snapshot from across the valley and our vineyards. Generally, they can be enjoyed young but cellaring will reward with increased complexity.

A bright nose with lots of lemon peel, green apple, even a touch of melon this year, loads of jasmine florals and crushed oyster shell freshness. The 2022 has a touch more weight on the palate than previous years, medium bodied with high acidity, crunchy fruits, a little savory sourdough lees quality and a touch of flinty reduction. A quick decant will really allow this to open up in the glass. Producer’s notes
