Polperro Mill Hill Pinot Noir 2021

$100.00

If there was a single vineyard wine in this release that defines Polperro then it would have to be Mill Hill. One of the coolest sites and late harvested, there is nonetheless an intensity and concentration of flavour, coupled with high toned aromatics, bracing structure and buoyant acidity. Tangy red fruits, hedge fruits, rhubarb, sweet and savoury spice and lavender aromatics. Concentrated and intense, the acidity more obvious here and the tannins the most angular of the release. But it’s not edgy. There is a burring to the angles and structure, a sort of finessed power if you like. Effete in a way, lovely and graceful, yet long in the mouth and full of presence. Signature wine. Waters Wine Co

Medium-deep red-purple colour, bright; toasty barrels and nuts (almond, walnut) populate the bouquet, while the palate is softly fleshy and nicely textured, with good intensity and a degree of earthy savouriness partly due to barrel maturation. A whisper of clove oil. There is fleshy depth and drive, and the finish lingers on and on. 94 points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review

This such a beautifully structured and poised pinot nor which comes off the highest vineyard on the estate. Vibrant red fruits on the nose infused with a chalky acidity and slick fine tannin influence. It's still tightly help yet deep within is a core waiting to burst out. I love the energy in this wine and its brightness. Has everything to ensure extended cellaring, but it is mighty good drinking now. 96 points – Ray Jordan, Ray Jordan Wine
