The first release of the Coverdale vineyard, planted in 2010 on volcanic red clay in a natural amphitheatre. Cool and exposed of course ala Polperro, and like Talland Hill, a touch more rugged and dark fruited. Sweet spices, dark fruits, brambly fruits, cola and clove. Rich and succulent, the gummy tannins prominent, mouth-watering and mineral. This is the most mineral and primal of the wines, and at this stage, the most elemental. It’s a wonderful reminder of the potential for the rugged power of pinot, yet pretty and floral too. Freshness of course and long, gosh it’s long and at this stage, the most mysterious. Waters Wine Co
Deep red-purple, impressively intense and youthful in colour. The bouquet is reserved and subtle with savoury underbrush and dried-herbiage aromas, plenty of suggestions of whole- bunch, joining with concentrated dark-cherry fruit which really drives this wine. Powerful, dense, rich and supple in texture, the tannins lavish but ripely smooth, the whole thing lasting a long time on the finish. A top-flight pinot that deserves a bit of time in the cellar. 97 points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review
