From 1960s vines in Blewitt Springs planted to Holocene sand; 20% whole bunch, about 21 days on skins, then 10 months in an old 2500L foudre. There’s a compactness to this, a quietness on opening, fruit enmeshed presently, but there’s concentration, balance and prettiness within. Cranberry, ripe raspberry, damson plum, marasca cherry, some darker cherry, too. Hints of dusky rose, ground cinnamon, white pepper, brown cardamom, bitter herbs, the palate buoyant yet intense, the fine-boned tannins and enlivening acidity invigorating. There’s a lot yet to unfurl, but it’s all there. 96 Points – Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion
