Sorrenberg is very Bordeaux, very Paulliac, very bloody excellent. Signature aromatics, you just want to keep your nose in the glass. Cassis, dark cherry, pencil shavings, plum, bay leaf, woodsmoke and sweet earth. Generous, full flavoured and detailed. Plush and incisive, with terrific energy and flow, the tannins grainy, a piqued acidity. Effortless power, it’s so richly flavoured, yet drinks so cooly, a study of composure and refinement. Balanced, nothing at all out of place and the finish long and mineral. Alongside Wantirna, Australia’s finest Bordeaux style red.
The warm conditions of the 2024 growing season allowed our Bordeaux varieties to achieve excellent ripeness while retaining balance and elegance. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc & 20% Merlot, with the balance comprising Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. Low crop levels and natural fermentation on skins for four weeks, followed by 24 months’ maturation in French oak before bottling without fining or filtration. Blackcurrant and blackberry are complemented by subtle notes of white pepper and spice. The palate is generous and beautifully balanced, with a rich mouthfeel and fine, silky tannins. One of Australia’s great cabernets. This from a cooler season highlights and accentuates the typical bright red fruits and blue fruit mix, especially on the nose. It’s aromatic and perfumed with an African violet scent. The palate as always is so exquisitely balanced and refined. Since 1989 the cabernet has been augmented with the floral […]

This is a wine that gets me unreasonably excited about Yarra cabernet. A tightrope walker, risk taker, the excitement coming from how close it gets to the edge. Mulberry fruit and leaf, cassis, cedar, rubbed rosemary. It’s the lithesome way it moves that excites. 142 dozen made. 12.7% alcohol. 97 points – Nick Ryan, The […]

The Leeu Passant Cabernet Sauvignon comes from two parcels on the Lower Helderberg with a marked influence from False Bay. Subtle, focused, refined and nuanced, it’s a Cape red for lovers of fine Bordeaux, combining notes of graphite, cassis, plum and fresh herbs framed by graceful tannins. 2025-30. 94 Points – Tim Atkin MW […]

100% Cabernet Sauvignon from 1960s planted vines situated in Vine Vale, Barossa Valley. Currently tended to by Wayne Ahrens and Suzie Hilder. The label, much like the wine, is a nostalgic throwback to some labels of old and features the heritage listed church that we use as our winery and sometimes cellar door – “Oddio” in […]
