Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spatlese #10 2018

Telltale aromatics including pear, quince, greengage, laurel and caraway. Packed with fruits, spices and herbs yet incredibly filigreed right into the spicy finish. A superb effort with real spatlese character. 94 Points – Mosel Fine Wines, 2028-48

Also superb. The bouquet is bright and beautifully expressive for a young Domprobst, a blend of pear, apple, violets, bee pollen, a lovely base of slate and a gentle topnote of wild yeasts. Fullish and succulent on the attack, with beautiful purity to the fruit, fine soil signature and a long, balanced and zesty finish. I love the slate-acid duality that defines the back end. This will need only three or four years in the cellar to really start drinking with style and generosity. 93+ Points – John Gilman, 2023-75

Smoky mineral and herbal citrus, suggesting spontaneous fermentation, already complex in terms of the aroma despite its youth. On the palate, sweet flavours of ripe lemon and apricot, generous in fruit and with plenty of freshness to balance. Viscous texture and long succulent finish with just a hint of spice, beautifully integrated freshness. Needs time to gain complexity on the palate but it has delicious citrus purity. 17+ Points – Julia Harding, 2023-30
