Stargazer Single Vineyard Riesling 2019
Pale straw in colour with green edges, the nose shows orange rind, musk and ginger aromatics. The palate has volume and generosity yet finishes tight, sapid and long, framed by typical Tasmanian talcy acidity and positive phenolics. Single Vineyard. Coal River Valley.
A single vineyard sourcing; fermented wild: the want of this estate which, to be frank, is no longer an up and coming address but a freight train on express mode. The wines are beautiful. This is no exception. The decision to assuage riesling’s high voltage acidity with a dollop of residual sugar was a brave one, as much as it was sensible. Talc, citrus allusions, ripe apple. Nothing sweet and sour. The wine sits in the glass knowing that is is going to stun: limpid, gently viscous and strident across the mouth, expanding across every crevice, bud and pore. An Australian benchmark with longing glimpses towards the variety’s soulful Germanic home. 96 Points – Ned Goodwin, Halliday Wine Companion 2021
