Markus Molitor Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett Goldcap 2019

Tingly and intense, such a tense and filigreed Kabinett. Like all of Molitor’s wines, this is round in shape, and cut through by a ruthless cut of acidity. Some smoke, ruby grapefruit, kiwi, white peach, melon and citrus. Tight and coiled, a little warmth softens, and unloosens the threads. There is a tough of texture, hand in hand with the invigorating acidity, driving the finish. I know of no other producer that is able to so round and welcoming with such a savage cut. From the higher parts of the cru, the 2019 Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett (Golden Capsule) is clear, bright, intense and fruity on the elegant, slatey nose. The palate is lush, round and aromatic as well as refined, and the sweetness is balanced by the delicate, vivid, crystalline acidity. The finish is stimulatingly salty. A lovely wine that I would keep for some years, though the 2019 already drinks very well. Tasted in May 2021. Drink: 2021-2040. 92 points Stephan Reinhardt
