At first quite closed, this has a whole spectrum of citric aromas that slowly open up. Notes of lychee and mangosteen, too. Then comes the wide-screen palate that’s packed with ripe fruit, but still quite tight on the long, very precise finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but better from 2022. 93 Points – James Suckling
Cuvée Théo Riesling comes exclusively from the monopole Le Clos des Capucins (which takes its name from the Capuchin friars who arrived here in 1619), at the base of the celebrated Schlossberg hill. The Clos is well protected from winds by the surrounding hills and by the walls enclosing it. The soils consist of sand, alluvial pebbles and granitic gravel. Here the low-cropping vines typically offer up a supple and pithy Riesling that’s beautifully accessible young—a reflection of these sandy soils. As per all Weinbach Rieslings, this was whole-cluster pressed, fermented without any yeast additions and matured in very old oak casks for 10 months.
From a great vintage for this Domaine, this might be the finest—certainly it’s the most powerful—Théo we have shipped. It opens with white blossom and ripe citrus aromatics, while the palate is deep and juicy with ripe apple, guava, lime and pine needle notes. It’s a layered yet mouth-wateringly crunchy Riesling of surprising body and power. A superb Théo.
The Estate Riesling is sourced from mostly 25-year-old vines grown on granite soils at 650 metres elevation. After approximately 24 hours on skins, the fruit was direct-pressed to two ceramic eggs for fermentation and a year-long élevage with lees. It was then racked to old foudre where it rested before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. […]
Add to cart Producer: RavensworthMesh is a collaboration between Yalumba’s Robert Hill Smith and Jeffrey Grosset, two of Australia’s greatest riesling producers. Typical of the vintage, the 2021 has that extra level of concentration. White flowers, mandarin oil, lemon zest and juicy ripe limes. Texturally, there is a chalky/salty mineral feel, that really lifts the finish. Precise, elegant, detailed […]
Add to cart Producer: Mesh98 Points – “The 2020 Marienburg GG Falkenlay opens with a clear, pure and crunchy slate aroma intermingled with generous, ripe and concentrated, very elegant Riesling fruit with herbal aromas. Full-bodied and rich yet refined and saline on the palate, this is a very delicate, pure yet also lush and superbly balanced Falkenlay with lingering […]
Add to cart Producer: Clemens BuschBracing minerals, sliced pears and apples, wet stones and a gently floral edge here. So pure and fresh. The palate has a succulent, powerfully aligned drive of fresh apple and pear flavours with a mouthwateringly fresh stream of acidity. More citrusy at the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes.
