At first quite closed, this has a whole spectrum of citric aromas that slowly open up. Notes of lychee and mangosteen, too. Then comes the wide-screen palate that’s packed with ripe fruit, but still quite tight on the long, very precise finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but better from 2022. 93 Points – James Suckling
Cuvée Théo Riesling comes exclusively from the monopole Le Clos des Capucins (which takes its name from the Capuchin friars who arrived here in 1619), at the base of the celebrated Schlossberg hill. The Clos is well protected from winds by the surrounding hills and by the walls enclosing it. The soils consist of sand, alluvial pebbles and granitic gravel. Here the low-cropping vines typically offer up a supple and pithy Riesling that’s beautifully accessible young—a reflection of these sandy soils. As per all Weinbach Rieslings, this was whole-cluster pressed, fermented without any yeast additions and matured in very old oak casks for 10 months.
From a great vintage for this Domaine, this might be the finest—certainly it’s the most powerful—Théo we have shipped. It opens with white blossom and ripe citrus aromatics, while the palate is deep and juicy with ripe apple, guava, lime and pine needle notes. It’s a layered yet mouth-wateringly crunchy Riesling of surprising body and power. A superb Théo.
At once generous, yet fine and polished, this is a pretty serious wine for the village-wine category with a lot of depth at the finish, where positive tannins and a slate-like quality add some real complexity. From organically grown grapes with Fair’n Green certification. Drink or hold. Screw cap. 93 points – Stuart Pigott, jamessuckling.com, […]
Add to cartPungent aromas, spicy and pumped-up. Intense flavour, firm and slightly plain, with length and style. It’s a great example of a particular style of Tassie riesling. 94 Points, Huon Hooke Showing a touch of honeyed development on the nose, along with red apple and Key Lime (native to south east Asia) pie. The palate […]
Add to cart95 Points – “The 2020 Marienburg GG is pure and fresh on the coolish and stony nose that represents its terroir perfectly well even if still showing a sur lie layer. Very elegant and refined on the palate, this is a lush, well-balanced and now creamy-textured Marienburg with gentle acidity and a long, saline and […]
Add to cart Producer: Clemens BuschThe most angular of Peter Lauer’s wines, but not lacking in intensity or interest. Notes of lemon, grapefruit, mandarin, spring jasmine, lavender wood, nettles and mint. Direct attack on the palate, very fine and tensile. Terrific poise and power, with a saline note and that spicy grip on the close. Elegant, refreshing style, nothing forced. […]
