At first quite closed, this has a whole spectrum of citric aromas that slowly open up. Notes of lychee and mangosteen, too. Then comes the wide-screen palate that’s packed with ripe fruit, but still quite tight on the long, very precise finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but better from 2022. 93 Points – James Suckling
Cuvée Théo Riesling comes exclusively from the monopole Le Clos des Capucins (which takes its name from the Capuchin friars who arrived here in 1619), at the base of the celebrated Schlossberg hill. The Clos is well protected from winds by the surrounding hills and by the walls enclosing it. The soils consist of sand, alluvial pebbles and granitic gravel. Here the low-cropping vines typically offer up a supple and pithy Riesling that’s beautifully accessible young—a reflection of these sandy soils. As per all Weinbach Rieslings, this was whole-cluster pressed, fermented without any yeast additions and matured in very old oak casks for 10 months.
From a great vintage for this Domaine, this might be the finest—certainly it’s the most powerful—Théo we have shipped. It opens with white blossom and ripe citrus aromatics, while the palate is deep and juicy with ripe apple, guava, lime and pine needle notes. It’s a layered yet mouth-wateringly crunchy Riesling of surprising body and power. A superb Théo.
One of the best Pewsey Vale Contours yet, the 2016 Riesling characterises both the power and the elegance of the year. There is real weight and amplitude, with a salty/chalky texture, citrus, frangipani, mandarin oil and camphor. Lots of detail and precision and with all its complexity, remarkably easy to drink! Many years ahead of […]
Add to cart Producer: Pewsey ValeDelightfully firm with so much personality and the sensation that you are licking stones in the vineyard! So firm, so pungent, yet so fruity. Gorgeous wine, essence of Riesling and already approachable. Steely finish suggests a long life ahead. Bone dry and very long. 17.5 points, Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com The Schlossberg hill has long been […]
Add to cart Producer: WeinbachAromatic and open with Gardenia, lemon, saltbush, dried oregano, grapefruit, pawpaw and green mango. Rich and almost full bodied, indeed I’m not sure we’ve ever had a Tasmanian Riesling with such dimensions and depth as this. For all its size and opulent shape, it’s very focused and structured, the richness of fruit tensioned by minerals, […]

Castle Rock is a bastion of high quality, great value Riesling and it’s 2021 A&W Reserve is wonderful. This has far more weight than the estate wine, with a rounder, more ample framework. The fruit spectrum’s different too, with tropical notes such as grapefruit, guava, kiwi fruit and pineapple. Extremely bright fruit and very complex, […]
