At first quite closed, this has a whole spectrum of citric aromas that slowly open up. Notes of lychee and mangosteen, too. Then comes the wide-screen palate that’s packed with ripe fruit, but still quite tight on the long, very precise finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but better from 2022. 93 Points – James Suckling
Cuvée Théo Riesling comes exclusively from the monopole Le Clos des Capucins (which takes its name from the Capuchin friars who arrived here in 1619), at the base of the celebrated Schlossberg hill. The Clos is well protected from winds by the surrounding hills and by the walls enclosing it. The soils consist of sand, alluvial pebbles and granitic gravel. Here the low-cropping vines typically offer up a supple and pithy Riesling that’s beautifully accessible young—a reflection of these sandy soils. As per all Weinbach Rieslings, this was whole-cluster pressed, fermented without any yeast additions and matured in very old oak casks for 10 months.
From a great vintage for this Domaine, this might be the finest—certainly it’s the most powerful—Théo we have shipped. It opens with white blossom and ripe citrus aromatics, while the palate is deep and juicy with ripe apple, guava, lime and pine needle notes. It’s a layered yet mouth-wateringly crunchy Riesling of surprising body and power. A superb Théo.
Fermented in a ceramic egg and left on lees for ten months. The nose is a combination of dried chamomile and bath salts, with some yuzu and bergamot citrus elements. A juiciness with fruit tingle acidity dominates the palate, backed by a refreshing crunch and wet chalk, almost quinine-like bitterness tidying up the finish. Winemaker’s […]

“A classic Rheingau riesling that reminds me very much of the great wines of the 1970s, this has a great interplay of lemon-curd fruit with mirabelle and dried-herb complexity. Serious depth and concentration on the full-bodied palate, fine tannins and earthy structure exactly interlocked on the powerful and complete finish.” 95 points, jamessuckling.com “Eva’s 2021 […]

A flagship wine for the brand which they have been making since 1986. So it’s no surprise they have absolutely NAILED it once again. It’s almost like what freshly bathed baby skin smells like, pure and immaculate. Apple blossoms, white nectarine and lychee. Greengage plums, lime pith and quartz. Slippery and nimble on the palate […]
Read more Producer: Castle Rock EstateA richer feinherb than most of us would, with greater depth and texture than most of us would be used to. Medium to full bodied, rippling with juicy ripe fruits, saltbush, mint and lemon preserve. Just off-dry, the depth of the palate is offset by subtle sweetness and the Saar’s rapier acidity. Remarkable wine. Waters […]
