A richer feinherb than most of us would, with greater depth and texture than most of us would be used to. Medium to full bodied, rippling with juicy ripe fruits, saltbush, mint and lemon preserve. Just off-dry, the depth of the palate is offset by subtle sweetness and the Saar’s rapier acidity. Remarkable wine. Waters Wine Co
Lauer ‘Senior’ is Florian’s nod to making a style of wine his grandfather (Peter Lauer Sr.) would enjoy. His aim is to make a feinherb, weeknight wine from 70-year-old, ungrafted vines on the Kupp. In 2020 ‘Senior’ is crackling with energy. The nose is redolent of white flowers, pear skin, stone fruit and cool crushed herbs. The palate is just off-dry, bursting with ripe stone fruit and savory herbal flavors and culminating in a surprisingly punchy, tangy, lingering finish. An excellent ‘Senior’ that will cellar very well. Importer’s notes
