Mesh is a collaboration between Yalumba’s Robert Hill Smith and Jeffrey Grosset, two of Australia’s greatest riesling producers. Typical of the vintage, the 2020 has that extra level of concentration. White flowers, mandarin oil, lemon zest and juicy ripe limes. Texturally, there is a chalky/salty mineral feel, that really lifts the finish. Precise, elegant, detailed and buoyant. One of our favourite Australian rieslings. Waters Wine Co
Mesh is a collaboration between Yalumba’s fifth generation vigneron, Robert Hill Smith, and Clare winemaker extraordinaire Jeffrey Grosset. Their 2020 Eden Valley Riesling is green and vibrant in appearance, with aromas of zesty lemon and grapefruit. An intense and generous palate, with lively citrus fruit and hints of talc. The wine finishes clean and dry with refreshing, long acidity. As is the case with all great Eden Valley Rieslings, this will age gracefully and reliably into a mature wine.
Here’s a riesling in which white peaches are pitted against cherry blossom and chamomile, with a cascade of honeysuckle and pears in the background. Full-bodied and very pithy with some good, crunchy acidity that provides a backbone to the exuberant stone and tropical fruit. 93 Points – www.jamessuckling.com
