It’s not easy making Kabinett (or ‘Kabi’ in this case) style Riesling in Australia, particularly in the Clare Valley, where you have to be able to ripen grapes at relatively low alcohols. Most producers end up having to pick too early, lending a sweet and sour note. The Kenny Kabi 2023 Riesling is the best to ever come out of the region and even has flavours rarely seen out of the Mosel. Fragrant, with fresh lime, blackcurrant, cherry, jasmine and mint. Super energy, the texture very pure and the sweetness nicely judged. The acidity provides precision and tension and beautiful balance. Rare to taste a wine of such quality and complexity at this price. Waters Wine Co
From a similarly located block in Polish Hill River, there are younger vines planted in 2006. Production also follows the dry PHR bottling until it reached 45 grams residual sugar when it is chilled and sulphured to stop the ferment. Citrus blossom, brown lime, chalk and a light tickle of dissolved gas. Producer’s Notes
