Talk about a Giant Killer. Massive, opulent, full of dry extract. And did I say refined? Elegant too. lavender honey, damp leaves, geranium, nectarine, melon and pine cone. Full bodied and dense, with a brooding feel, making me think that there is so much more to come. Driving mineral finish that is quite frankly, better than just about any GG coming out of the Rheinhessen. Waters Wine Co
The 2018er Frauenberg comes from the Nieder-Flörsheimer Frauenberg, a well-known “Grand Cru” vineyard on limestone soil in Rheinhessen, where the Estate took over a parcel in 2018. The grapes were harvested at 92° Oechsle and brought to and fermented at the facilities in Piesport down to fully dry levels of residual sugar (4 g/l). The wine offers a quite aromatic and floral nose of white peach, lavender, mint, Provence herbs and smoke. It proves juicy and a touch creamy on the over-all dynamic and intense palate but leaves a slightly opulent and phenolic feel on the overall rather tart and herbal finish. This dry Riesling will need a couple of years to settle down and integrate. It could then easily exceed our high expectations, in particular if it gains in finesse. 2023-2033. 91+ points, Mosel Fine Wines
