Castle Rock is a bastion of high quality, great value Riesling and it’s 2017 A&W Reserve is wonderful. This has far more weight than the estate wine, with a rounder, more ample framework. The fruit spectrum’s different too, with tropical notes such as grapefruit, guava, kiwi fruit and pineapple. Extremely bright fruit and very complex, we love the feel of this wine, succulent and although highly structured, this is more approachable than the estate, which tends to lead with structure, followed by the fruit. Fullsome and fleshy, concentrated and driving, this is an absolute bargain, with at least 20 years ahead of it. Waters Wine Co.
Castle Rock’s A&W Reserve Riesling is named in honour of the founders of the Estate, and made to highlight the greatness of Riesling. Hand-harvested and whole bunch pressed. Fermented with some solids and left on lees for 2 months.
Single vineyard. Hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. Gorgeous pineapple-driven tropical sweetness on the nose, with lemon/lime nuances a sturdy backbone – on the palate, elegance and power are in rare fine form… fleshy, juicy, flinty, with no edges, just lots of clarity, drive and poise of a F1 machine at every turn.
