Bubb and Pooley Riesling 2023


From 2 vineyards in the Coal River Valley. Hand picked and whole bunch pressed to tank, the fermentation stopped preserve a small amount of balancing residual sugar. Aged in a 2000L concrete egg for 5 months on fine lees. Very similar to the wines of the Saar in the Mosel. Very complex aromatics pf lime, blackcurrant, cherry, green apple, grapefruit, gardenia, orange blossom and minerals. Rich and deep, very powerful, compact and broad, the palate shaped by masses of texture, opulent fruit, plunging acidity and the faintest hint of sweetness. With a pH of 3.05 and 9.23 TA, the Bubb+Pooley riesling is incredibly stable and structured. The length of flavour guaranteeing an incredibly long life. Incredible wine. Waters Wine Co

Producer Profile

Bubb + Pooley is a new wine venture created by the husband and wife winemaking team of Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley. Their first and subsequent releases were produced from purchased fruit sourced from carefully selected vineyards in the Coal River Valley and the East Coast of Tasmania.

Sustainability and minimal impact underpin the approach at Bubb + Pooley – the fruit is hand-picked and there is minimal added sulphur to facilitate wild-yeast ferments and natural malolactic conversions. The wines are fermented in hand-crafted concrete vessels specifically designed to enhance the varietal.

All wines are bottle unfined and so are vegan suitable.
