Quealy Balnarring Pinot Grigio 2021

$35.00

Deeper than the estate wine and an uptick in intensity, but I love that it’s still fresh and vital, not over-concentrated or over-worked. Pungent nose, with white peach, Kanzi apple, grapefruit, apricot and white flowers. Intense, thrashing palate of citrus and stone fruits, firm pear, savoury spice and a subtle layer of cream. Structured and seemingly with a higher level of acidity than the estate pinot grigio, but also more weight and volume. As far as I’m concerned, the best pinot grigio from Australia. Waters Wine Co

Quealy’s benchmark Pinot Grigio is a blend of two vineyards in Balnarring this year: Hester vineyard and the Campbell and Christine. The fruit was whole-bunch pressed – only the most delicate portion of the press cycle is accepted – and left to settle overnight without sulphur. Twenty per cent went into Francois Frères puncheons for just four weeks (to soften the barrels for the Pinot) before being blended back with the stainless-steel component. Certified organic.
