Cool and sleek, with a mineral core that’s reminiscent of riesling. Medium bodied, but with an immensity that is breathtaking. Stone fruits, apricot, ginger, jasmine, clove, lime zest and autumn leaves. Driving palate, mineral flecked, the acidity’s softness becoming more thrilling towards the close. Will live for decades. Organic. 100% Chenin Blanc. This is our first allocation of the highly sought-after white from La Croix Boissée. Followers of this Domaine will be aware that this vineyard produces perhaps Chinon’s longest-living and most elegant Cabernet Franc, from the very chalky, white limestone soils above Baudry’s cellars in Cravant-les-Côteaux. Here, the south-facing aspect, the altitude and the soil give La Croix Boissée every right to call itself Chinon’s de facto Grand Cru.
This wine has started to mix with the high-flyers of Loire Chenin (although it has a style all to its own). The winemaking follows that of the entry Chinon blanc, although here the élevage can run up to 10-12 months, buying elegance and texture as it ages.
Scents of sappy pine, wet stone, bergamot, and camomile are followed by silky concentration and fine acid structure. It expands in the mouth with layers of orchard fruit, brown spices and smoky limestone notes, finishing with great minerality and energy. Importers Notes
