The 2021 Nautical Dawn, from vines grown on granite soils, has a backward bouquet that demands more coaxing than the previous vintage. Eventually it reveals attractive sea spray, petrichor and subtle, pressed white flower scents. The palate is taut and linear on the entry with impressive depth; the 2021 is a little strict at first but reveals discrete lanolin and grilled hazelnut scents with time. Persistent, yet you get the feeling that it’s hiding something up its sleeve. Be patient with this one. Drink 2024-2045. 93+ points, Neal Martin – Vinous
Called Nautical Dawn because of the Rustenhof farm’s proximity to the waves of False Bay, this subtle yet concentrated old-vine Chenin Blanc has some seashore aromas, flavours of beeswax and nectarine, understated oak, a volatile lift and the focus and precision that are the hallmarks of Chris Alheit’s winemaking style. Drink 2023-2030.

Among their many other talents, Chris and Andrea Mullineux are superb blenders. This cuvée of Chenin with Clairette, Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Semillon, Viura and Verdelho proves the point. Savoury, waxy and focused, with engaging minerality, fine texture and flavours of pear, peach and citrus peel. Drink date: 2022-2027. 95 Points – Tim Atkin, MW, timatkin.com, […]

The emblematic white wine of Olifantsberg, an homage to the whites of southern Rhone. A blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Chenin Blanc, this is the fullest, but by no means full bodied white in the range. The most expressive too, with white peach, nectarine, apricot, spring jasmine and signature dried herbs. Aged in mostly […]

The nose shows a little reduction before lemon, naartjie (mandarin), stone fruit, cut apple and a little nuttiness. Rich and broad with seemingly quite moderate acidity, round without being too leesy, this is a more generous vintage than usual. 92 Points – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za The grapes for this wine come from dry-farmed bush vines […]

While delicate, the 2021 fills the mouth with a cloud of pure fruit reminiscent of violets, apple and nectarine skin. There’s a fine sinew that pulls the wine through on the finish. It can be approached in its youth but will go on […]
