2019 provided Toolangi with wonderfully balanced Chardonnay fruit with both concentration of flavour and good natural acidity. Hand-harvested from Toolangi’s 18-year-old plantings (on A, B and G Blocks). Crushed and pressed with full solids straight to oak (10% new). No malo and 10 months on lees in barrel before bottling. This is a beautifully sculpted Chardonnay, really fine-boned with nectarine and lemon rind notes and a vibrant, clean finish. Excellent value.
Excellent intensity of flavour here. Crushed fennel, grapefruit, stone fruit and cedarwood. The impact of the fruit here is significant. It feels dry and quartz-like through the finish, and perhaps a touch warm, but if essence-of-chardonnay sounds good to you, then this is a wine you should investigate. 93 Points – Campbell Mattinson, The Winefront
