Diam. One of Chablis’ greatest 1er Cru terroirs, Montée de Tonnerre has a sandy, rocky topsoil rich in Kimmeridgian limestone. The one-hectare parcel that produces this wine is situated within the lieu-dit of Chapelot, which is separated from the Grand Cru Blanchot by a narrow ravine. The vines cover two contiguous plots, one 50 years old and a second, recently replanted parcel. This is a concentrated, layered, rocky wine—somehow seductive yet incredibly earthy and mineral. Stunning.
“Fresh and vibrant – some width to these aromas too – that’s a great invitation. Really mouth-filling, direct, almost linear intensity here – another great MdT in 2022.” Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report
“This is a temptress between its lush summer fruits and ample girth. Yet the edges of the palate are robustly chiseled thanks to roaring acidity. This is a real dynamo set to unleash loads of flavor. Just give it a year or two to fully develop its flavor spectrum of orchard fruits.” 94 points, Christy Canterbury MW, Tim Atkin Burgundy 2022 Special Report
